Our mission here at Anna McKenney Intermediate School is to develop well-rounded individuals who are respectful, responsible and strive for excellence.
Our efforts are focused on developing and expanding on four specific components: Academic Achievement, School Culture, Communication, and Vision.
Academic Achievement
We are confident in our use of Professional Learning Communities. This combined with pedagogical best practices will enable our students to experience success in their academic futures. Through collaboration, our staff has been focused on building common formative assessments, which are utilized to identify specific learning gaps and to ensure all students receive individualized interventions as well as extensions of learned material. Staff collaboration supports our teachers' development of quality instruction that emphasizes best practices and building meaningful assessments, which meet the needs of targeted populations.
School Culture
Creating a safe learning environment and an engaging educational experience at McKenney is an ongoing goal for our team. We continuously offer parent training on various subjects related to student development and academic achievement. Topics include social media awareness, monitoring academic progress, social skills, and building resiliency among our students. Establishing behavioral expectations throughout campus has directly impacted our discipline referrals in a positive manner. Our efforts to promote, recognize and reward students demonstrating Respectful, Responsible and Healthy behaviors has helped maximize the time our students receive instruction in the classroom as well as reinforcing a positive school culture.
Communication
Crystal clear communication is a vital component in meeting the needs of all stakeholders here at McKenney. It’s impossible to meet the needs of our students without ensuring they have a clear understanding of expected learning targets. We achieve communication in a variety of contemporary ways as well as more traditional ways. It is important to us that communication is presented in “user-friendly” formats that grab the attention of our students. Our weekly video news segment, The McKenney News, highlights our students' success in various athletic events, classroom activities, the student diversity on our campus and provides general information.
Vision
Professional Learning Communities are at the forefront of our future-planning. In planning for the future, we have prioritized building a master schedule to meet the needs of all students. We firmly believe that this is a critical component to our student’s future success at McKenney. To celebrate goal-achievement and progress, students will be recognized and rewarded for testing proficient on common summative assessments as well as quarterly awards assemblies for academic achievement. Ensuring all parents, students, and staff members of expectations is an important component to building and sustaining an academic environment we can all be proud to call home.
